My name is Dan (that's me over on the left with my
girlfriend, Sam), and I'm the creator/founder/content
Bruins Hockey Now. Don't ask me where the name came from,
because I don't remember at this point. I wasn't feeling clever that
day and just needed a domain name. Truthfully, the name should be more
like "Bruins Hockey When I'm Not Busy With Something Else," but that's not very catchy.
So what is this website all about? I graduated from
Suffolk University in 2010 with a degree in journalism, love to write,
and love hockey. Strangely enough (or not, considering what I chose to
major in), the two
jobs I currently work have nothing to do with my field of study. I
decided when I was still in school in the summer of '09 that I'd
combine my interests and talents into something I could do on my own,
and BHN was born.
For a while, this site was awful. (I'll pause here to allow "what do you mean, 'was'? hahaha!" snark...moving on.)
I had a terrible yellow background,
a font that looked like something
out of a 13-year-old girl's diary, and my graphic design skills
were limited to the fill tool on MSPaint.
Now, I've gotten into more of a rhythm with the site:
game recaps, features (both serious and goofy), and more. Also, I'd say
my GIMP/graphic skills have improved a little bit. Just a little.
Here's what you can expect from this site:
I'll occasionally come up with something statistical or
analytical, but I'm mostly about the crazy/funny stuff about the Bruins
that you won't get from a standard beat writer, things like pictures of
Chris Pronger's head on a traffic cone or making up fake
businesses/products for NHL players.
I actually started creating original content more regularly, stuff from
this site has been posted around the Internet, from reddit to Yahoo! to
Sports Illustrated. I also created the Internet's first Jack Edwards
Hey, I think I've made some strides from the days of the burn-your-retinas yellow.
A good rule of thumb for this site: if it seems too
ridiculous to be considered real by a rational person, I'm probably not
serious. Sarcasm can be hard to spot online, and I don't want to come
off as some kind of nut job.
I update the site as often as possible, mostly Monday thru Friday. I'm always on Twitter spouting off about the Bruins.
I move game stories off of the home page as time goes on, and don't
bother saving those. Bigger stories (like features or Top 10 lists) can
be found on the Features page.
If you want to know more about me (CREEPY) or my educational background and qualifications, visit my personal website. If you have an idea for a feature or would be interesting in helping out with the site in some way, let me know.
Thanks for visiting my site.
